Filter your broadcast audience
Audience filtering sends a broadcast to a specific group of contacts instead of everyone. That improves relevance, lifts reply rates, and stops you from burning your daily messaging limit on people who did not want the message.
Instead of sending a festival offer to your entire list, send it to active customers, or premium customers, or customers in one city.
Before you start
- Your WhatsApp Business Account is connected to Voixt.
- Your contacts are imported or synced.
- The tags, custom fields, or attributes you want to filter on already exist on those contacts.
- Your template is approved by Meta, if you are messaging outside the 24-hour window.
Why it matters
- Messages reach only relevant customers.
- Fewer unwanted messages means fewer blocks and reports — which protects your quality rating.
- Reply rates and conversions go up.
- You stop wasting your daily unique-customer allowance.
Build a filtered audience
- Log in to the Voixt Dashboard and open WhatsApp → Contacts.
- Click Filter at the top of the Contacts page.
- Select conditions — tag, city, source, assigned agent, last seen date, and so on.
- Combine them with
ANDorOR. - Review the resulting list carefully before you send anything.
- Go to WhatsApp → Broadcasts, click Create Broadcast, select the filtered audience, choose your approved template, preview, and send.
Available filters
| Filter | Use case |
|---|---|
| Name or mobile number | Find one specific customer or a small set. |
| Tags | Target groups such as Premium, VIP, New Lead, Follow-up Required. |
| Source | Where the contact came from — website, ad campaign, manual upload. |
| Assigned agent | Contacts handled by a particular team member. |
| Created date | Recently added contacts, or older cohorts. |
| Last seen | Active versus dormant customers. |
| Conversation status | Open, closed, pending, or active conversations. |
| Custom attributes | City, product interest, customer type, purchase history. |
AND versus OR
| Condition | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| AND | The contact must match every selected condition. | Tag = Premium AND City = Ahmedabad |
| OR | The contact matches any one condition. | Tag = Premium OR Tag = Gold Customer |
AND narrows, OR widens. Use AND when you want a precise audience; use OR to pull together several similar groups.
Worked examples
| Campaign goal | Filter |
|---|---|
| Offer for loyal customers | Tag = VIP OR Tag = Premium |
| Follow up with warm leads | Tag = Interested AND Conversation Status = Open |
| City-specific promotion | City = Ahmedabad |
| Reactivate dormant customers | Last Seen more than 60 days ago |
| Agent-specific campaign | Assigned Agent = <team member> |
Delivery and messaging limits
Filtering does not exempt you from Meta's limits. A broadcast can only start conversations with as many unique customers as your current tier allows in a rolling 24 hours.
If your audience is larger than your remaining allowance, the excess will not send. Filter down, or split the campaign across days. See Messaging limits.
Best practices
- Always review the filtered list before sending. The count alone is not enough — spot-check a few contacts.
- Start narrow. A well-targeted 500-person send beats a scattershot 5,000-person one.
- Keep tags tidy and consistently spelled, or your filters silently miss people.
- Segment by intent, not just demographics.
Conversation Status = Openfinds people already talking to you. - Exclude recent recipients so the same customer is not hit by three campaigns in a week.
Common mistakes
- Sending to the full list by default. The single fastest way to damage your quality rating.
- Mixing up AND and OR.
Tag = Premium AND Tag = Goldusually matches nobody. - Filtering on a tag that does not exist, because of a typo or casing difference.
- Ignoring the audience count and hitting the daily limit halfway through a send.
- Forgetting the template must be approved before it can go outside the 24-hour window.
FAQ
Can I save a filter for reuse? Rebuild the filter when you create the next broadcast; the conditions are set per campaign.
Does filtering reduce my messaging limit usage? Yes. The limit counts unique customers you start conversations with, so a smaller audience consumes less of it.
What if a contact matches two filters in one campaign? They receive the message once. A broadcast de-duplicates its audience.
Can I exclude contacts?
Combine conditions so the unwanted group falls outside them — for example Last Seen within 30 days to skip dormant contacts.
